MS Word is the de-facto standard for word processing but alternatives and many of them free are out there.
Google Docs is Word compatible but others, less common and also free do exist such as Apache OpenOffice, Zoho Writer and WriteMonkey.
Finally, if you want to stick with MS Word but cannot afford the app then use the Microsoft Office Online edition.
